Seattle

Cloud-native companies and logistics, where the engineering bar is high and cost control on infrastructure is a live concern.

Sectors we see here

  • SaaS & technology
  • Logistics & transportation
  • Retail & ecommerce
  • Healthcare technology

Delivered remotely on Pacific (PT) hours. Our only office is in Austin, TX — we do not claim a Seattle address we do not occupy.

The market

What is different about Seattle

Seattle clients are typically cloud-native by default and sophisticated about it, which shifts the conversation from 'should we be on the cloud' to 'why does this cost what it costs'. Cloud cost work is requested here more than in any other market we serve.

The engineering culture also raises the bar on what a deliverable looks like: instrumented, tested, documented and reviewable. That suits how we work, and it means the parts of an estimate covering those things are rarely challenged.

Washington's My Health My Data Act is broader than HIPAA and catches consumer apps that assume health privacy law does not apply to them. Anything inferring health status needs review against it.

What it changes

How that shapes the work

Local context is only worth writing down if it changes a decision. These are the ones it changes here.

Cost per transaction, not just cost

Infrastructure spend only means something against volume. We model unit economics before recommending an architecture, because the cheapest option at current scale is often the wrong one at target scale.

My Health My Data is broader than HIPAA

Washington's statute covers consumer health data outside the HIPAA perimeter and has a private right of action. Consumer apps that touch wellness or symptoms are in scope.

Deliverables include the instrumentation

Observability, tracing and alerting are part of done here rather than a follow-up phase, and we price them that way.

Regulation

What comes up disproportionately here

Not an exhaustive list of what applies to you — the regimes that appear more often in this market than elsewhere, and that we therefore design against by default.
  • My Health My Data Act
  • SOC 2
  • HIPAA
  • PCI DSS
