Overview
Retail packaging works under constraints most design ignores: viewed at distance, surrounded by competitors, in variable lighting, by someone scanning quickly. The hierarchy has to survive that. What reads beautifully on a monitor frequently disappears entirely on a shelf, which is why we test designs at real size and distance before committing.
Ecommerce packaging is a different problem. Nobody browses it, so shelf impact matters less. What matters is protection in transit, dimensional weight cost, the unboxing moment and increasingly sustainability — American consumers notice excessive packaging and say so publicly.
Both need regulatory accuracy. FDA nutrition and labeling requirements, allergen declarations, FTC country-of-origin rules, California Proposition 65 warnings, state recycling labeling. Getting these wrong means a recall or a reprint, so we build compliance review into the process rather than checking at the end.
Business benefits
Designs printed and reviewed at actual size and shelf distance, because on-screen evaluation is systematically misleading.
Form, material and graphics designed as one problem, which produces better results and fewer production surprises.
FDA labeling, allergen declarations, Prop 65, country-of-origin and recycling requirements handled during design, not after.
Variant architecture that stays coherent as the range grows, with clear differentiation between flavors, sizes and lines.
Dimensional weight, transit protection, unboxing experience and the thumbnail view on a marketplace listing.
Dielines, color separations, press checks and vendor coordination, so what runs matches what was approved.
Problems solved
“Our packaging disappears on the shelf.”
Rebuild hierarchy for distance viewing — usually simplification, higher contrast and one dominant element rather than five competing ones.
“Shipping damage and returns are high.”
Structural redesign with transit testing, which often reduces both damage and dimensional weight cost simultaneously.
“Our product line looks like unrelated products.”
A packaging system with consistent brand architecture and deliberate variant differentiation across the range.
“We had to reprint because of a labeling error.”
Compliance review integrated into the design process with a documented checklist per product category and market.
Our process
Competitive shelf audit, retailer requirements and the specific conditions your product will be seen in.
Format, material and sustainability decisions with cost and protection modeled before graphics begin.
Hierarchy, typography, imagery and copy designed and reviewed at true size and distance.
Regulatory content verified against requirements for your category and the states you sell into.
Dielines, color separations, printer coordination, proofing and press attendance where warranted.
Technologies used
Chosen for maintainability and hiring depth rather than novelty. We will justify any choice on request, and we avoid technology that makes you dependent on us.
Industries served
Sector context changes what good looks like. These are the industries where we have delivered this service repeatedly.
Why Mova
The same commitments apply to every engagement, regardless of size or service.
We scope a fixed-price starting point so you can evaluate us on packaging design before committing to a program.

Code, accounts, files and documentation are yours from day one, with no lock-in of any kind.
We baseline before starting and report against it honestly — including the months that fall short.
Questions
The questions we are asked most about packaging design, answered directly.
We build compliance into design — FDA nutrition and labeling formats, allergen declarations, Prop 65, country of origin and state recycling rules — and recommend regulatory counsel review before production for FDA-regulated categories.
