The market
What is different about New York
New York work is shaped by two constraints that rarely appear together elsewhere: regulated data and high brand exposure. A financial services client needs a compliance review before a feature ships; a media or retail client needs the design to survive the attention of an audience that notices everything.
Practically, that means legal and compliance are stakeholders from week one rather than a gate at the end. Projects that treat review as a final step lose weeks to changes that would have been cheap to make in design.
The market is also unusually procurement-heavy. Vendor onboarding, security questionnaires and insurance requirements are real lead times, and we plan the schedule around them rather than being surprised.
What it changes
How that shapes the work
Compliance is a stakeholder, not a gate
For anything touching consumer financial data, we bring compliance into design review rather than presenting a finished build for approval. It is slower for two weeks and much faster overall.
Procurement has a lead time
Security questionnaires, vendor onboarding and certificate requirements routinely add three to six weeks before a kickoff. We start that clock at proposal rather than at signature.
NYC accessibility exposure is real
New York courts see a disproportionate share of US web accessibility filings. WCAG 2.2 AA is in scope on every build we do here, not an add-on.
Regulation
What comes up disproportionately here
- GLBA
- SOC 2
- PCI DSS
- NYDFS Part 500
- ADA / WCAG 2.2 AA
